Celebrate #KatibaDay2015



Background Information

On the 27th August, 2010 Kenyans Promulgated the Constitution of the Republic of Kenya at Uhuru Park; The Constitution which gave hope for growth and Development of Counties and the Country at Large. For five years now, Kenya’s have witnessed that growth and development they envisioned in various parts of the Country, the constitutions, Public Institutions, and of Individuals.
At Promulgation, The Constitution’s sixth Schedule outlined what to be achieved in five years including: Legislation in respect of culture, Legislation on citizenship, Freedom of the media, Family, Consumer protection, Fair administrative action, Fair hearing, Rights of persons detained, held in custody or detained, Kenya National Human Rights and Equality Commission, Environment, Community land, Regulation of land use and property, Legislation on land, Agreements relating to natural resources, Legislation regarding environment, Leadership and integrity, Ethics and anti-corruption commission, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Legislation on political parties, Promotion of representation of marginalized groups, Vacation of office of member of Parliament , Right of recall, Determination of questions of membership of Parliament, Right to petition Parliament, Power of mercy, Assumption of office of president , System of courts, Removal from office, Vetting of judges and magistrates , Speaker of a county assembly, Urban areas and cities, Support for county governments, Removal of a county governor, Vacation of office of member of county assembly, Public participation and county assembly powers, privileges and immunities, County assembly gender balance and diversity, Legislation to effect Chapter eleven, Revenue Funds for county governments, Contingencies Fund, Loan guarantees by national government, Financial control, Accounts and audit of public entities, Procurement of public goods and services, Values and principles of public, National security organs, Command of the National Police Service and Any other legislation required by the Constitution. To date, baby steps have been made especially to put in place Devolution, and meet constitutional Schedules yet a lot still has to be done to realize the vision as conceived by Kenyans under the Constitution.
Five Years Later, the Youth, professionals, organization and Students assemble in time to ask, have we made any gains? Where have we gone wrong and how can we forge a head into the future having certainty that we are on the right direction?

Objectives
The purpose of Constitution Day is:


- To commemorate the creation and signing of the supreme law of the land and
- To assess the Gains, the Miss-Steps and the Future of the Constitution of the Republic of
- Kenya since promulgation.
- To Launch Tujue Katiba Initiative’s Leadership 101 Program.

The event Supported by United Nations, Search for Common Grounds, Transparency International, Umande Trust, Katiba Institute, Africog, and COTU will be hosted by Tujue Katiba Initiative


Date, Time and Venue
The Event will be held on the 27th August, 2015 from 8:30am -1:00pm at the Fungamano House.

Target
This event Targets Six Hundred Participants from the following Categories: Constitutional Lawyers and Law Students from Schools of higher learning, Youth Serving Organizations from all the seventeen Constituencies of the Greater Nairobi City County, Faith Based Organizations, Women Organizations, Civil Society Organizations, University Students Associations, Private Sector and Individuals; who have stood out to promote Constitutionals since its Promulgation.
Topics of Discussion
The Panelists and Participants Invited will tackle the following Topics with a Focus on the Youth:
- Gains Under the new Constitution
- Miss-Step made under the Constitution since Promulgation and
- The Future of the Constitution of the Republic of Kenya Regards to Devolution, Public Participation and Good Governance

Event Description
(I) Arrival and Introductions of the Day’s Objectives
The Constitution Day of 27th August, 2015is expected to officially commence at 8:30am when guests shall have arrived and registered. The day will be ushered in by singing of the National Anthem in Swahili followed by prayer from one religious leader.
Tujue Katiba Initiative’s Director will take on Stage to introduce the Organization and the Days Objectives. This will be followed by Perfuming artists from different classes of Patriotic Performances.
(II) Key Note Address
The key note Address in intended to take a few minutes immediately the entertainments End.

(III) The Gains, Miss Steps and the Future of the Constitution
Panelists and Participates will engage in one and Half Hour deliberation on the Gains Made, Miss-Steps and the Future of the Constitution of the Republic of Kenya Since Promulgation. These main issues will be discussed one at a time to allow participation and fresh Ideas.
Round of Questions and Points of discussion from Floor and from the Panelists will be moderated by the Moderator of the Session.
(IV) Launch of Leadership101Program
When all have been said and Done, Tujue Katiba Initiative will invite on Stage the TKI Team for the Launching of the Leadership 101 program; “Raising Leaders for Our Nation” a Program that focuses on 6 weeks Intense Leadership Training for Our Nation.
